General Police Director

Police Director is appointed by the Serbian Government for a five-year term, upon the proposal of the Minister of the Interior, following a call for applications and in accordance with the rules on labour relations applicable for the Ministry.

The General Police Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior is responsible for the performance of police duties, which are, together with the competences and powers, governed by the Law on Police.

Established: 2005

Structure: headed by the Head of Sector who is also under-secretary to the Minister of the Interior. Appointment: is appointed by the elected Government of the Republic of Serbia.

Competencies: Internal Affairs Sector is an independent organizational unit of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia, which according to provisions of the Police Law (November 2005), monitors the legality of work performed by MoI law enforcement officers, especially when they conduct police tasks and use police authority in order to safeguard and protect human rights.

Permanence: Law on Organization and Jurisdiction of Government Authorities in Suppression of Organized Crime, Corruption and Other Severe Criminal Offences (repealed)

Appointment: Prosecutor for Organized Crime is selected by State Prosecutorial Council

Competencies: responsible for the prosecution of perpetrators of criminal offences and other punishable acts and which undertakes measures for the protection of constitutionality and legality. It exercises the jurisdiction of the public prosecutor’s office within the scope of the rights and duties of the Republic of Serbia and is responsible for the work of the public prosecutor’s office and for his/her own work before the National Assembly.

Budget: Funds for the work of public prosecutor’s offices are provided in the budget of the Republic of Serbia.
