Annual Meeting of the Southeast Europe Coalition on Whistleblower Protection

March 21 - March 22

The annual meetings of the Southeast Europe Coalition on Whistleblower Protection (hereinafter: Coalition) serve as a platform for discussion of common challenges, strategies and solutions to improve the protection of whistleblowers, as well as how to best utilize the Coalition resources. They are also an opportunity to celebrate success, such as by granting the Free Speech Award(s) and capturing lessons learned. Depending on the country where the annual meeting is organized, some of the core activities during that day focus on whistleblowing issues in the host country. Typically, the meeting is hosted by a Coalition member based in the host country.

The Format of the Coalition Annual Meeting

The meeting will take place in-person in Podgorica, Montenegro and will be hosted by Coalition member Civic Alliance. It will bring together members, representatives from state and public institutions in Montenegro, and other key figures from civil society, such as a prominent Montenegrin whistleblower or civil society activist in the field of whistleblowing and anticorruption. The event will be opened by introductory remarks, a motivational speech, and the delivery of the Free Speech Award(s) of the Coalition. As Montenegro is a candidate country for EU membership, it is expected to transpose the EU law into the national legislation. Thus, the agenda will include the topic of transposition of the EU Whistleblower Directive in the country from the perspective of key stakeholders included in the process. Subsequently, members will discuss their work and recommendations for the Coalition’s activities, as well as potential joint projects with their colleagues in the region.
