RAI Secretariat participated at the national conference “Standards for preventive anti-corruption bodies, policies and practices” in North Macedonia

The Regional Anti-corruption Initiative Secretariat (RAI), represented by Senior Anti-corruption Advisor Ms. Aneta Arnaudovska, participated in the national conference “Standards for preventive anti-corruption bodies, policies and practices” that was held on Monday December 20, in Skopje, North Macedonia.

The conference was organized by the State Commission for Prevention of Corruption of Republic of North Macedonia, in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice of North Macedonia, and with the support of the Action against Economic Crime in Northern Macedonia, as part of the joint program of the European Union / Council of Europe “Horizontal Instrument for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022”.

The roundtable was dedicated to the respect of standards of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) in North Macedonia. The participants discussed the obligations arising from Articles 5 and 6 of UNCAC, as well as the compliance of the national legislation, good practices and challenges in implementing the standards for preventive anti-corruption bodies and policies.

The event gathered representatives of international delegations and organizations, including the Head of Operations at the Council of Europe Programme Office in Skopje Ms Lejla Dervisagic, Head of the Delegation of the European Union in Skopje H.E. David Geer, Head of UNODC for North Macedonia Mr Bill Wood, as well as the representatives of national authorities for prevention and fight against corruption and the Platform of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in the Fight Against Corruption.

RAI’s Aneta Arnaudovska presented RAI’s strategic objectives and project activities, as well as the video for the Regional Public Whistleblowing Campaign Break the Silence: Whistle for the End, that was produced in the framework of the project Breaking the Silence: Enhancing the Whistleblowing Policies and Culture in WBs and Moldova, implemented by the RAI Secretariat with the support of the European Union.

The Regional Public Whistleblowing Campaign Break the Silence: Whistle for the End was recently awarded by the EPAC/EACN 2021 for the most innovative, successful and recently completed regional project.
