RAI and North Macedonia sign the Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation on Enhancement of Whistleblowing

In September and November 2020, the Regional Anti-corruption Initiative Secretariat (RAI Secretariat) signed the Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation (MoUs) with two public institutions in North Macedonia, namely the State Commission for Prevention of Corruption and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of North Macedonia, committing to improving their whistleblower reporting channels and protection mechanisms through activities provided under the EU funded project  ‘Breaking the Silence: Enhancing whistleblowing policies and culture in Western Balkans and Moldova’ (hereinafter: the Project) implemented by RAI Secretariat.

The end goal of the signing of the MoUs with public institutions is to strengthen whistleblower disclosure channels and protection mechanisms in the Project’s beneficiary jurisdictions, which is key to encouraging whistleblowing as an effective tool in preventing, detecting and investigating corruption.

RAI Secretariat signed the MoU also with public institutions relevant to the enforcement of whistleblowing in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro and will pursue the signing of MoU in the remaining beneficiary jurisdictions of its EU funded whistleblowing project.
