Podgorica: The Regional High Level Conference “Effective Asset Recovery in Accordance with European Standards”

On October 14, 2022 the regional conference “Effective Asset Recovery in Accordance with European Standards” was held in Podgorica. The conference was organized by the AIRE – Centre in cooperation with the Regional Anti-corruption Initiative and the Ministry of Justice of Montenegro, supported by the UK Government.

 

The conference was opened by Dritan Abazovic, Prime Minister of Montenegro, Steve Arrick, Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy Podgorica, Biljana Braithwaite, Western Balkans Programme Director at the AIRE Centre and Desislava Gotskova, Head of RAI Secretariat.

 

The conference’s purpose was to boost asset recovery in the region by bringing together prominent international experts, judges, prosecutors and asset recovery practitioners to exchange good practices and experience and to expand their knowledge and professional networks.

 

“As a regional intergovernmental organization with a clear anti-corruption mandate, RAI has a longstanding experience in supporting asset recovery in SEE. Strengthening the capacity of national authorities and enhancing regional cooperation in asset recovery is one of the RAI primary objectives. Acknowledging the importance of asset recovery in combating corruption and organized crime, RAI would continue to support its members in their efforts to establish effective asset recovery legal and institutional frameworks through building partnerships and fostering regional cooperation. The conference was an excellent opportunity to present and discuss the international and regional perspective on asset recovery and we are very satisfied with the quality of presentations and panel discussions” said Desislava Gotskova, Head of RAI Secretariat.
