Marking 25 Years of the Regional Anti-corruption Initiative (RAI)

The Regional Anti-corruption Initiative (RAI) marked its 25th anniversary, a milestone that reflects a quarter of a century of regional cooperation, integrity, and joint commitment to transparency and accountability across South East Europe (SEE).

Held in Sarajevo, the anniversary event brought together high-level officials, representatives of RAI member states, international partners, and long-standing friends of the Initiative. The gathering served as both a moment of reflection and a renewed commitment to collective efforts in advancing integrity and good governance across the region.

Among the distinguished guests was H.E. Georg Diwald, Austrian ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, representing one of RAI’s most valued and enduring partners.

“Austria is proud to stand alongside RAI in its efforts to build trust, accountability, and good governance — values that are essential for the region’s democratic and economic development,” said Ambassador Diwald, reaffirming Austria’s continued support for RAI’s mission.

In his address, RAI Director Mr. Albert Hani emphasised that the anniversary marks both a reflection on achievements and a forward-looking vision:

“RAI’s 25 years stand as a testament to regional solidarity and shared dedication to building societies where integrity and accountability prevail.”

The event underscored RAI’s ongoing role as a regional platform for cooperation, dialogue, and shared learning in the fight against corruption. Since its establishment, RAI has been instrumental in promoting transparency, integrity, and accountability through policy dialogue, capacity building, and regional partnerships.

The RAI Secretariat extends heartfelt thanks to all partners, member states, and supporters who have been part of this journey over the past 25 years — and continue to stand with us as we look ahead to new challenges and opportunities in advancing good governance across South East Europe.
